The “Rise, Armenia” civil initiative has issued a statement saying that for the fourth day the police have been hindering the activists campaigning against the rise in electricity prices from holding a sit-in in the central spot of Republic Square. “Police officers have made a human barricade in front of the activists and illegally ignore citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assemblies. Our struggle has entered a stable stage. In conformity with the principle of equality, the “Rise, Armenia” initiative will substitute the rally organizers every 4 days. David Hovhannisyan, Vahagn Levonyan and Tigran Yeghiazaryan will lead the rally from July 31 to August 4. On August 1, the civil initiative will put forward new, more fundamental demands for the energy system which stem from the interests of the public,” the initiative said in a statement.
