The number of ethnic Christian minorities of Syria is gradually decreasing as a result of the ongoing war. Few people from the local Christian Armenians have remained here. Armenian church of Tal Abyad was turned into a prison. Syrians in Tal Abyad are now free of Islamic State rule, but once numbering 6000, the number of Christians has significantly decreased in the city. Khacho, who hails from Armenia, is one of them. He asked not to use his real name or show his face. He shows what happened at the local Armenian church. “In 2011, we held a Festival of the Cross. People from Lebanon, America and France all came to celebrate. Then everything changed,” he said. First, rebels stormed the city and sacked it then came the jihadis. In 2002, as the correspondent of Kurdish department of “Voice of America” states, this church was turned into a prison, where hundreds of Christians were detained and beheaded. Fortunately, at the present the church sits empty but it is safe. But what will happen to it tomorrow isn’t known.
