Taxi driver Arman Galstyan who became well-known in Armenia after speaking on TV against new taxi licensing rules, brushes off allegations that he ‘has come to terms’ with Minister of Transport and Communication Gagik Beglaryan. “He [Gagik Beglaryan] is an ordinary guy who lives in this city [Yerevan] and is aware of all problems. Nobody gave or promised me a Prado. I live as I lived before. Nothing has changed in my lifestyle,” Arman Galstyan said to A1+. The taxi driver was attending protests held in Yerevan by individual taxi drivers earlier this month against new taxi licensing order and became best known for his harsh criticism of public officials. When we asked him if he had changed its opinion, the cabman said, “I did not say anything against Gagik Beglaryan in the past. Should I notice any ill-treatment during the meeting with Beglaryan, I would say now. No one can threaten or blackmail me, or tell me how to behave and what to say in public. Forget it all. I always say what I think and no one can ever instruct or dictate me in my actions,” he stressed. “Sometimes you need to understand which of your demands the government can meet and then pose them. We always have many demands. Can this man meet all our demands? We should also think about these people, they are not Turks. We criticize Turks and Azerbaijanis but we do not have respect for each other here, in Armenia,” he added.
