The Armenian National Assembly today voted 67 to 24 to adopt the amendments to the law on protection of personal data. Eleven lawmakers abstained from ballot.

Before the voting, Naira Zohrabyan, Secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) faction, said the bill posed serious risks and there were controversies regarding citizens' personal data, hence her party was going to vote against the amendments.

The National Assembly also passed several other bills submitted by the government, including the amendments to the law on provisions for former presidents. Under the bill, former presidents in Armenia will receive 70 percent of their salary, plus a furnished study for life.
