During today’s question and answer session, opposition lawmaker Nikol Pashinyan asked where the ‘proceeds' from speed camera fines are going. “Against the background of widespread declines and failures, I have discovered a sphere where you government has reported 18% growth. The money has been accumulated from the fines levied on citizens who violated traffic rules. On the other hand, let me added that the number of road accident victims has increased by 12% as compared to 2013,” said Pashinyan. The lawmaker says masked people attack and beat citizens in broad daylight but none of the cameras fixes the attacks. “Where does the money received from fines go?” he asked again. Minister of Justice Hovhannes Manukyan took the floor to answer the lawmaker. The minsiter said the situation is not as bad as it is presented by Nikol Pashinyan. “The number of accidents and traffic violations has significantly decreased in areas where surveillance cameras are installed,” said Hovhannes Manukyan. “Similarly, Satan is not as bad as it seems to be,” said Pashinyan. “But it does not change anything. In three years, you have taken 24 billion drams from people. Why don’t your cameras fix these masked assailants? Everything is in your hands – cameras, hammers and horseshoes, as one of our MPs said. Why don’t you identify the assailants?” The minister refused to answer the observation seeing political colouring. Anyway, he assured the MP that surveillance cameras have always been used to disclose crimes.
