New charges brought against jailed Armenian businessman

New charges have been levied against jailed Armenian businessman, Levon Hayrapetyan, who is charged with financial machinations connected with the sale of a Russian oil company in 2007. OnlJuly 24, investigators officially charged the businessman on suspicion of money laundering and embezzlement. He is convicted of laundering and squandering money obtained illegally as an accomplice of Ural Rakhimov in the 2009 sale of the Bashneft Company. Rakhimov controlled Bashneft for three years through the AFK Systema company. Hayrapetyan does not admit his guilt and denies all the charges against him. The jailed businessman suffers from diabetes and cancer and recently experienced a stroke, requiring him to receive regular medical attention.
