Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan will not return to politics without the consent of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK), says a senior HHK member. “Robert Kocharyan will never oppose the HAK,” says Lernik Alexanyan. He says the recent interview and the film [dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the second president] were an attempt by Robert Kocharyan to check general moods in public. Speaking about the political developments predicted for late September, Mr Alexanyan said he was really surprised to hear the largest force in the opposition quartet speaking in the language of ultimatums to the authorities. However, the advocate of Nzhdeh ideology is not concerned by the political activism of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK). “The BHK has never said it is going to change power,” he stressed. Head of the HHK faction Vahram Baghdasaryan has heard that the opposition is going to take the struggle to the street if the authorities fail to meet their 12 demands. “It's a risky move, look at the examples of our neighboring countries,” he said. BHK representative Stepan Margaryan says despite everything the quartet will hold a rally to present to public the situation in the country. “We do not want to intimidate anyone.  During the meeting we shall discuss the government response and decide on our further joint actions.” The MP says even if the authorities agree to suspend constitutional amendments, the opposition will not go back from its plans. “This 12-point list includes socioeconomic demands which we find essential for meeting challenges faced by the country. The failure to meet them will lead to the country’s collapse,” said Mr Margaryan. The BHK lawmaker says they already know what they will do in case the Armenian Revolutionary Federation – Dashnaktsutyun insists on carrying out constitutional reforms.  He predicts consolidation of the opposition forces and society. “If people find that the Constitution is to blame for emigration, economic crisis, economic monopolies, they will go against it,” he said.
